Meet Beth Besecker MD Pulmonologist Internal Medicine Critical Care Sleep Disorder specialist
My name is Beth Besecker and I'm board certifiedin pulmonary critical care, sleep medicine and internal medicine and I work at The OhioState University Wexner Medical Center. In pulmonary I see patients mostly in the as a consultant when patients come in for conditions such as COPD or asthma. For criticalcare I see patients when they get admitted to the intensive care unit and are, you know, severely ill with things like sepsis or respiratory failure. And then as far as sleep medicineI have a half day outpatient that I see patients with sleep disorders such asnarcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea. I'm pretty hands on as far as following up on studies, getting back to patients, making my own phone
calls back to them if if there's somethingthat's not very straightforward. We have a a standard process of who calls the patientsthrough our office but if there's anything that's out of the ordinary other than whatwe've talked about on our visit, I'll typically call the patient and and let themknow and explain that to them because I think it's important for them to to hear from theirphysician why things are a little bit different than what we talked about initially. But whatI will say with that though is that I also expect it to be a partnership and so thereforeI expect a lot from the patient too. They, you know, need to show up to their appointments, they need to give us a call
if they have problems, those types of things. If the patients do their part in following up and being an active participant in theircare then I'm, you know, very involved as well.
